The Fine Art Galleries at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center hosts Alchemy of Icons: new paintings by Angel Suarez-Rosado from July 16-September 3, with an artist reception on July 19 from 6-8pm.
Angel Suarez-Rosado is an Easton-based artist with a global exhibition portfolio, having exhibited his paintings and installations at National Gallery of Australia, Art Institute of Chicago, The State Museum of Pennsylvania, The Atlanta College of Art Gallery, Parsons School of Design, The New Museum in New York, The Williams College Museum of Art and many other galleries, museums, and academic institutions. He earned his BFA and MFA from School of Visual Arts and also studied at SUNY Buffalo and University of Puerto Rico. Angel was a professor of Fine Arts at Kutztown University and has been an artist-in-residence at Bethlehem's Banana Factory. He also worked at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in their prints and drawings department.
Since 1980, Angel's work has been an expression of Santeria traditions through his lens as a gay Puerto Rican. He says, "my own reality is a daily frenetic activity to increase and agglomerate the information in our surge for survival. The studies of the sacred areas bring me into an awareness for healing in the immensity of injustice: an illuminated anxiety for a cosmic shelter, a place to rescue and recover our own fractured and mutilated past."
