The Fine Art Galleries at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center invite the community to attend an artist reception on April 4th with Cupid Ojala. The artist reception is for the opening of a solo exhibit featuring two of Ojala's series, Magic Cat and C. U. Next Tuesday. In addition, this artist reception is also the unveiling of a new mural by Cupid at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center! The exhibit is curated by Deborah Rabinsky.

Cupid Ojala earned his MFA at Parsons The New School for Design where he developed fantasy spaces that mirror masculine identities of desire onto themselves as social critique. His work has been exhibited at the Leslie Lohman Museum for Gay & Lesbian Art, New York Public Library, New York's Bureau of General Services Queer Division, The University of Maryland, and the Button Factory as well as impressive New York galleries such as Art During The Occupation Gallery, Strange Loop Gallery, and Upper Manhattan Open Studios. Cupid is also author of The Gender Wilderness Coloring Book. He grew up in a conservative, Mormon family in rural Bumpass, Virginia, where he also received his BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University. He transitioned from female to male in 2003 and currently resides in Brooklyn.

About Cupid's C. U. Next Tuesday series, New York Magazine's Vulture.com writes "For all the fraught discussions our culture has had over gender these days, much of which is so obdurately beside the point, Ojala’s work conjures the pure delight of just being who you are, as well as who you’ve created yourself to be, perhaps especially if who you are is somehow magical."

This event is a sober social event at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center. No alcohol will be served.
