Suicide Prevention Rocks!

[Image description: A rectangular graphic with a white background. Large black text reads "Suicide prevention" and the word "rocks" is in a gray stone font underneath. Below is a white text box with a light blue border with black text that reads "September 28" and "6:00-7:30 p.m." Underneath is the address "522 West Maple Street at Bayard Rustin Way, Allentown, PA 18101" in black. On the left side of the image are four small painted rocks with colors of the rainbow and messages of hope. Different painted patterns are underneath the rocks, and an image of a paintbrush is to the right in black and white. On the right side of the graphic is an image of a paint tube in black and white, as well as other painted patterns. The logo for Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center is in the upper right corner.]

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center is hosting a community rock painting event on Tuesday, September 28 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

The 2020 Pennsylvania LGBTQ Health Needs Assessment found that more than half of all respondents (56.2%) have considered suicide in their lifetimes. The rate is even higher for those who identify as transgender, genderqueer, and nonbinary (74.5%).

Come paint a rock or two with messages of hope and inspiration that may help save someone's life. You're encouraged to display the rocks in a public place for someone to see or find.

Special thanks to the Northampton County Suicide Prevention Task Force for the rock donation and to Project Silk Lehigh Valley for art supplies.
