Ariel Torres' 12 Days of Giving Page
Welcome to my Page!
I would like to tell you a little portion of my journey, as I went through life not knowing what I wanted to do with my future. Starting with college for general studies, which is where most would go to start a plan for their life, I dabbled with many ideas of what life could be for me. Unfortunately, the dilemma I was faced with was not being able to find that major that resonated with me. I told myself year after year, you need to go back and finish school, but for what? What major would best suit me? You can’t do Drag forever!!!!! What is my end game? I now know that the answers to these questions were unanswerable because what I wanted was something I wasn’t even aware of! Why? It was because I was destined to work at a place that focused on the LGBT community, and a few months after the center opened its doors, I was hired.
This August will mark my 4 year anniversary here at the Center and I have never regretted my choice to work for this amazing non-profit. Apart from getting to work with LGBT people and our allies, I am able to be a major part of planning our very own Lehigh Valley Pride Festival! The festival is a culmination of hard work, time, and a great support system from the community and from my co workers. If it weren’t for Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center and the opportunities it has given me, I would probably still be searching for my purpose and honestly, maybe even feeling a little lost.
In the spirit of the holidays I am inviting you to contribute to my holiday fundraiser, which goes to help the Center that has given me purpose! This fundraiser is called Bradbury-Sullivan’s 12 days of giving, and I chose to be a part of this fundraiser because the Center means very much to me! Aside from Lehigh Valley Pride, the Center offers multiple arts, cultural, and supportive services to the LGBT community as a whole. To keep these programs free, it takes a lot of fundraising, perseverance, and relationships. It is because of my relationship with you that I felt comfortable enough to reach out to you and many others. I am hoping that if you are in a position that allows you to give back a little this year that you choose my fundraiser to do it. It is my goal to have at least 12 different people donate $85 each (which is tax deductible). I of course understand that not everyone I reach out to will be in a position to do so, but any contribution is greatly appreciated.
My relationship with you, Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, and being given a purpose in life are some things that I am thankful for this holiday season, and I hope you can contribute in some way if you are able to! Thanks so much for taking some time out to read an abridged version of my story and I would like to also wish you the happiest of holidays!
With Gratitude and Holiday Cheer,
P.S. If your employer matches charitable donations, please don't forget to let them know about your gift as well!
