R – 100 min
Jesus is a hairdresser for a troupe of drag performers in Havana, dreaming of becoming a performer himself. When he finally gets his chance in the spotlight, a stranger emerges from the crowd and punches him in the face. The stranger is his father, a former boxer, who has been absent from his life for the last 15 years.
As father and son struggle to understand one another, they wonder if they can become a family again once again.
Viva was the winner of the ADL Stand Up Award at the 2016 Santa Barbara International Film Festival “because [the film] powerfully stands up for respecting diversity, rejecting bigotry, and celebrating a triumph of self-realization and love over hate.”
Prices: $10 Regular Admission / $8 Students (with I.D.) / $8 Seniors (65+) / $6 Civic Theatre Members (please note: this is not a fundraiser for Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center)
